<p data-start="2239" data-end="2592">For someone with little or no driving experience, I think the first priority should be learning basic vehicle control and becoming comfortable with the road environment. Things such as steering, braking, acceleration, mirror checks, signaling, and maintaining a safe following distance all seem simple when explained but can take time to become natural.

Should a beginner first spend several lessons on quieter residential streets before moving to busier roads? At what stage is it appropriate to start practicing lane changes, intersections, parking, and highway driving?

<p data-start="2900" data-end="3171">Another important factor is the instructor. I would prefer someone who explains mistakes clearly instead of making a learner nervous. Driving can already be stressful for beginners, so having an instructor who provides calm and constructive feedback seems very important.

<p data-start="3173" data-end="3443">I&rsquo;d also like to know whether learners should practice between professional lessons with a qualified supervisor. Regular practice could help reinforce what is taught during lessons, although I understand that learners should follow all applicable licensing requirements.
